An amazing rhododendron species. These vigorous plants not only have powerful fragrance, but the new foliage after flowering is almost 'metal' looking. Huge FRAGRANT trumpets cover the shrub from late April through mid May here in the Pacific Northwest. This species is fairly tender, so if you don't live in zone 8 through 10, you shouldn't attempt growing it. If you have a heated greenhouse and live in cold country, then you would be fine. I have seen this plant growing in a half whiskey barrel on wheels, being rolled out in spring and back into the protected greenhouse in fall.
Rare Variety – This variety is difficult to find anywhere due to these reasons
-
These tender varieties are rare because they do not have a wide enough audience due to their lack of hardiness and are overlooked by the big growers.
-
Singing Tree Gardens has made these rare varieties our passion and remain committed to producing them for future generations. Currently we are the only source in the USA for these tender, FRAGRANT plants.
