R. 'Boddaertianum'
R. 'Boddaertianum'
Growing quite large over time, 10 - 12 feet tall x 15 ft wide, this early blooming hybid of R. arboreum is a stunning plant. The flowering begins between December and late January most years, and will last well if there are no hard freezes. The foliage is a medium to dark-green with no shine, and will hang a bit in cold weather. It is vigorous and will become large faster than most rhododendrons. A good screening plant. The flowers are a pure bright white, in full tall trusses 5 inches across and 8 inches tall. Our old plant will display hundreds of flowers when in full bloom. We propagate this form because so many customers want one when they see it in full bloom. This is an old hybrid that is found often in Europe. It is a hybrid of R. campanulatum x R. arboreum. We had it listed as R. arboreum 'white form' for many years, but now have been told it is actually this old fabulous hybrid. We stand corrected!
Rare Variety – This variety is difficult to find anywhere due to these reasons· Hard to propagate – many cultivars do not root easily from cuttings, but at a reduced rate thus making the plant rare.
· Hard to find – these cultivars are hard to find in the first place, probably because they are hard to root from cuttings
