Viburnum tinus 'Variegatum'
Viburnum tinus 'Variegatum'
Viburnum tinus ‘Variegatum’ is a handsome, evergreen shrub valued as much for its foliage as for its long season of bloom. Its leathery, dark green leaves are attractively edged and splashed with creamy-white variegation, bringing brightness and texture to the garden year-round. The plant forms a dense, rounded habit, typically reaching 4–6 feet tall and wide, making it ideal for hedges, screens, or as a specimen.
From late fall through early spring, clusters of soft pink buds open to small, fragrant white flowers, creating a delicate contrast against the variegated foliage. These blooms are followed by metallic blue-black berries that add further seasonal interest and can attract birds.
Adaptable and reliable, ‘Variegatum’ thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. Once established, it shows good drought tolerance and performs especially well in mild coastal climates. It is also tolerant of pruning, making it easy to shape or maintain as a formal hedge.
