Vaccinium nummularia - Himalayan Whortleberry
A charming Himalayan relative of blueberry, the Himalayan Whortleberry has small shiny leaves that comes out bright red, then shades to bronze, then green. The small round leaves are shiny and have an attractive look that will set it apart in the garden. Nice plant for a woodland setting. In spring, striking red and white striped pendant flowers arrive in clusters, covering the plant. If pollinated they produce small blue/black tasty berries. Grows to 3 ft tall and wide in 6 years. Prefers a bit of shade, and well drained soil. Keep well mulched, and offer light dose of acid fertilizer in early spring and late summer. Hardy to zone 7.
