Thymus serpyllum 'Mauve'
Thymus serpyllum 'Mauve'
Commonly called creeping thyme, this cultivar has a more mauve flower color, otherwise is similar to Thymus serphyllum 'Pink chintz', which, on its own is a very special cultivar. Native to Europe, western Asia and northern Africa, this one is rarely used in cooking as the leaves are usually not considered to be of culinary quality. However, the flowering is quite stunning in late spring or early summer. Attracts bees and butterflies for the entire flowering season. Growing densely and spreading into a flat mat, the plant will keep out weeds while adding contrast even with out of flower. Each plant will cover an area 3-4 feet across.
