Sequoia giganteum 'Barabit's Requiem'

A weeping form of Giant Sequoia. Barabits Requiem was introduced in Hungary. A wider weeping habit with coarser foliage than the more commonly know 'Pendulum' variety. This variety has a more symetrical perfect shape than the older 'Pendulum' cultivar.

Sequoiadendron giganteum ‘Barabits Requiem’ is a rare and distinctive selection of giant sequoia valued for its unusually graceful, pendulous form. Unlike the towering rigidity of the species, this cultivar develops soft, weeping branches that cascade downward in elegant layers, giving the plant a dramatic and almost mournful character reflected in its evocative name.

The foliage consists of dense sprays of rich blue-green to deep green needles that remain attractive year-round. As the tree matures, it forms an irregular, sculptural silhouette that can become a striking focal point in the landscape.
