Saffron Queen

Saffron Queen

Created in England in the 1950's, this lepidote rhododendron is quite vigorous, growing to 10 ft tall and 15 ft. wide over many years. There is a mature specimen at the Mendocino Botanical Garden in Fort Bragg, CA that has been pruned to fit a bench under it. You can sit on the bench with yellow flowers all around and over you. Spectacular! This rhododendron is somewhat tender, being hardy to 20 deg. F. The bloom is in mid spring.
