R. 'Yaku Fairy'

R. 'Yaku Fairy'

Found in a native habitat of R. Keiskei var. ozawae on Yakushima Island in Japan, this small leaf rhododendron is unique for its tight and compact habit. This selection by Starling in the early 1970's has light yellow flowers that open in March to April on a plant that grows approximately 1 - 1.5 ft tall and 2-3 feet wide. The slow growth makes it more prostrate in habit. Hardy to -10 deg F, and also more heat tolerant as well. Native to Kuromi Peak. Rare.
