R. 'Ruby Hart'

R. 'Ruby Hart'

Created and registered in the late 1950's by the Whitney nursery, this worthwhile dwarf rhododendron is best known for its waxy, deep ruby-red blooms. The plant has very attractive dark-green leaves on a plant that will be 2 ft tall and 3 ft wide in 10 years. The hybrid parents are (R. 'Carmen' x R. 'Elizabeth') x R. elliottii, which puts together 3 of the best red flowering rhododendrons, hybrids and species. Somewhat tubular, the rich red flowers almost appear to be made of wax, and cover the plant in late March, and into April. Hardy to zone 7.
