R. occidentale 'Frilly Star'
R. occidentale 'Frilly Star'
Another of the Smith-Mossman discoveries found near Big Lagoon on Stagecoach Hill, CA. This one has super frilly edges to every petal, white with a gold blotch in the upper petal. The flowers open to a full ball truss with pink stripes in the flowers as well. The contrasting bright pink buds add interest as the flowers open. The fragrance will be heavy like all of the R. occidentale, and the shrub will grow fairly large. There were many numbered selections they found, and if they received a name, then we can assume that it was one of the best forms. Deciduous.
