R. kiusianum ‘Murasaki Shikubu’

A rhododendron species that looks like an evergreen azalea. The growth habit is low and mounding, and the leaves small and glossy dark green. Native to Japan, growing on steep mountain slopes, and adaptable to a wide range of conditions. The reddish-purple flowers cover the plant in April - May. Hardy to zone 6.
