R. 'January Rose'

R. 'January Rose'

We obtained this plant from the Fort Bragg area, coastal California years ago. It is a hybrid of R. degronianum ssp. yakushimanum x R. arboreum. The plant has very dark-green glossy leaves with a thick layer of indumentum on the backs of the leaves, and makes a very dense and lush plant. In 10 years the plant will only be 3 feet tall and 4 ft wide. The pink flowers come out in January every year, and when we don't have a frost when it opens, we get a grand show. But on years when there is frost in January, the flowers all turn brown. Still, it is a worthwhile plant for the garden.

  • Rare Variety – This variety is difficult to find anywhere due to these reasons

    ·        Hard to propagate – many cultivars do not root easily from cuttings, but at a reduced rate thus making the plant rare.

    ·        Hard to find – these cultivars are hard to find in the first place, probably because they are hard to root from cuttings

    ·       Singing Tree Gardens Originals – All cultivars created uniquely by Singing Tree Gardens are deemed ‘rare’. Singing Tree Gardens is the ‘Exclusive Distributor in the USA’ of this variety.
