R. degronianum ssp. yakushimanum FCC
R. degronianum ssp. yakushimanum FCC
Here is the true species R. degronianum ssp. yakushimanum that was awarded the First Class Certificate by the American Rhododendron Society. Similar to the clone 'Koichiro Wada' that came from Japan, this plant will grow slowly to 2.5 ft tall and wide in 10 years. The foliage is very dark green, shiny, with the undersides exhibiting a tan colored, suede-like covering called indumentum. The flowers open pink, then fade to white, and usually completely cover the shrub in April. Our 1 gallon size plants are small due to their slow growth rate, but guaranteed to be true to form. Hardy to -25 deg F.
