R. augustinii 'Barto Blue'
R. augustinii 'Barto Blue'
Not a hybrid, but a selection of the species R. augustinii that was named by Dr. Carl Phetteplace of Eugene Oregon. A unique shade of lavender that Dr. Phetteplace felt was different enough to name after his friend and colleague, James Barto. Mr. Barto had a nursery in Junction City, Oregon, hybridized and grew many rhododendron from seed. This form will grow to 6 ft tall in 10 years and blooms in April. Hardy to -5 deg F.
Premium Variety – This variety has proven itself over time to be a higher-grade plant with better performance, a higher degree of attractiveness, and is hard to find and purchase.
