R. 'Alpine Glow'
R. 'Alpine Glow'
Created by the Exbury Nursery in the U.K. in the early 1900's, this hybrid between R. 'Loderi' x R. calophytum may be one of the finest of all rhododendrons for its foliage, flower, and form. The breeding between 2 stately plants has resulted in one that has long and narrow leaves on a plant that is striking for the look it has. The flowers are light pink with a cherry red throat, and have some fragrance. A medium to fast grower that will become 10-12 ft tall over time with a 'tree-like' habit. This plant received the coveted Award of Garden Merit in 1938. Hardy to 0 degrees F.
Rare Variety – This variety is difficult to find anywhere due to these reasons
· Hard to propagate – many cultivars do not root easily from cuttings, but at a reduced rate thus making the plant rare.
· Hard to find – these cultivars are hard to find in the first place, probably because they are hard to root from cuttings
