Pinus strobus 'Shaggy Dog'
Pinus strobus 'Shaggy Dog'
This eastern White Pine develops an interesting and somewhat whimsical look over time. The tree is multi-stemmed with gracefully arching branches of blue-green needles and will be quite irregular. It is not hard to imagine the 'Shaggy Dog' reference. Some occasional pruning may be required to get the desired look over time. Once the look is achieved, pruning of the new growth of the current season will be the only requirement. This cultivar can be a sculptural specimen that will be noticed by all. Prefers full sun and well drained soils. Introduced by the late Sid Waxman from the University of Connecticut. Hardy to zone 3.
