Pieris japonica 'Valley Rose'

Pieris japonica 'Valley Rose'

Found in most Japanese gardens, this native plant of Japan has several 'sports' and named forms. 'Valley Rose' is highly ornamental with its long white and pink racemes of flowers covering the plant in early spring. After flowering bronze-red new growth adds interest, then turns an attractive dark-green for the rest of the year. The cultivar grows to about4 ft tall and a bit wider over time. One of deer's least favorite plants, so no need to protect it. Deer will run away from this plant after smelling it. If pruning is desired, do so after flowering is done.
