Picea orientalis 'Ferny Creek Prostrate'
Picea orientalis 'Ferny Creek Prostrate'
From 'Down Under'. Spectacular flat and prostrate growing form of Caucasian spruce. This selection has layered branching and short, shiny, very dark-green needles. Useful in the rock garden as it will spill over boulders as it spreads, looking awesome! One can expect the plant to be only a foot or so tall and 4-5 ft wide in 10 years. Originating at Ferny Creek Nursery, Victoria, Australia, in the 1990's, and also nominated as the Conifer of the Year for the American Conifer Society's Collectors' Conifer of the Year Program. We do not have many.
Our Premium grade is staked up to 18-24 inches tall, so to make it prostrate, you will need to remove the stake and plant it at an angle. It will then be fairly flat.
