Picea glauca 'Pendula'
Picea glauca 'Pendula'
Picea glauca, the white spruce, is an extremely hardy evergreen conifer native to Alaska, Canada, and many northern states in the US.
'Pendula' is the weeping form of this spruce. Very striking in any garden, the tree is very steeply conical with an exaggerated 'spire' shape. the main leader goes straight up with all of the side branches going steeply down, layering over each other. Sometimes this tree will make a large skirt on the ground, adding to its charm. Typically, this tree will top out at 15 - 20 ft tall, but only 4-6 ft wide. If you have a small space for a tree, this might be the ticket. Found in France in 1867.
