Juniperus rigida 'Pendula'
Juniperus rigida 'Pendula'
A weeping form of the Needle Juniper. Juniperus rigida is native to the dry mountain areas of northern China, Korea and Japan. Considered a small tree, this evergreen weeper will top out at 20 feet, and has a loose, open and irregular habit, but also pendulous branchlets. The foliage is small and pointed, and is green to gray-green in color. The tree makes a striking specimen in the garden. The tree is often planted on temple grounds in Japan, giving the tree the common name of 'Temple Juniper'. 'Rigida' is pertaining to the needles, not the branches.
