Festuca glauca 'Boulder Blue'

Festuca glauca ‘Boulder Blue’ is an outstanding ornamental grass prized for its exceptionally intense silvery-blue foliage and compact, mounding habit. One of the bluest selections of blue fescue, it forms neat, symmetrical clumps of fine, evergreen to semi-evergreen leaves that provide striking color and texture throughout the year.

Growing just 10–12 inches tall and 12–18 inches wide, ‘Boulder Blue’ is ideal for edging pathways, rock gardens, gravel gardens, containers, and mass plantings. Its cool blue foliage creates beautiful contrast with flowering perennials, shrubs, and darker-leaved plants, making it a versatile addition to both formal and naturalistic landscapes.

In early summer, slender flower stems rise above the foliage, bearing delicate buff-colored flower spikes that gradually mature to soft tan. While the blooms add a light, airy texture, the brilliant blue foliage remains the plant's greatest ornamental feature.

‘Boulder Blue’ thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, where its foliage develops the richest blue coloration. Once established, it is highly drought tolerant and requires very little maintenance beyond occasional grooming to remove older leaves and keep the clump looking fresh.
