Duke Blueberry
Duke Blueberry
Proven by many to be one of the earliest blueberries to ripen on fast growing shrubs. The fruit has that powder blue color when ripe, and is firm and sweet as can be. This Northern Highbush Blueberry was developed by the USDA of Maryland, and grows well in cooler climates. White, pink-tinged flower appear in the spring, giving way to the large fat berries. Some use this variety in the landscape for the vibrant orange and yellow fall color. Pruning annually is recommended. It is amazing that these plants are long lived, giving fruit for over 50 years! It has been said that one plant can produce over 20 lbs of fruit per year. Wow!
