Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Willamette Elegance'
Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Willamette Elegance'
Most gardeners love the foliage of the Hinoki cypress, but most grow very slowly and stay relatively small. Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Willamette Elegance' , found as a sport on Ch. o. 'Kosteri', grows larger, up to 12-15 ft tall. It has sculpted horizontal branching holding rich green foliage that has that lacy look seen on Ch. o. 'Kosteri'. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 10 feet (3 m) tall and 6 feet (2 m) wide, an annual growth rate of 12 inches (30 cm) or more. The shape is somewhat pyramidal. Also, in the winter, the foliage will take on some interesting colors of red, purple, gold and green. Hardy to zone 5.
