Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Rigid Dwarf'
Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Rigid Dwarf'
Highly rated among all of the Hinoki cypress, this erect, conical selection has stiff, upright foliage, glossy and very dark-green. Originating in the UK in the mid 1960s, and donated from a collection of A.H. Nisbet by the Hillier Nursery, the original plant is now growing at the Royal Horticultural Society's arboretum at Wisley. It is said that well grown plants will have really good structure and be 4 ft tall x 2 ft wide in 10 years. Similar to Ch. obtusa 'Nana Gracilis', but perhaps narrower. Very noticed in any garden. Hardy to zone 5. Also will perform well in shade.
