Cercis canadensis 'Ruby Falls'
Cercis canadensis 'Ruby Falls'
A new gem of a tree for small yards, Cercis canadensis 'Ruby Falls' will steal the spotlight in any yard that it is planted. Developed by crossing two stellar Redbud parents - 'Covey' x 'Forest Pansy', the tree exhibits showstopping character with dark rose-colored blooms in the early spring that last for several weeks. Then the new maroon-red colored leaves join the show on branches that weep and are held close to the stem. The texture is excellent and will contrast with many other plants, drawing the eye. Late in summer the burgundy leaves turn a dark green with a bit of maroon remaining. Even in winter the structure of the tree will be a sculpture that is very decorative. Hardy to zone 5, -15 deg F, and will prefer a bit of shade in hot climates. Birds, butterflies and bees love this tree.
