Camellia sasanqua 'Cleopatra'
Camellia sasanqua 'Cleopatra'
Lovely and FRAGRANT autumn blooming Camellia with semi-double soft pink flowers that have lighter centers. The foliage is very dark-green and glossy, elliptic to oblong and toothed. The plant is easy to grow and will be 6 ft tall and wide in 10 years. Can grow in full sun, but will prefer a bit of shade, especially in hotter climates. These plants perform best if mulched well and fed with a acidic fertilizer in summer. Difficult to move...dislikes transplanting. Camellia sasanqua is sometimes referred to as 'Christmas Camellias', as they tend to bloom in late fall and into winter. Their fragrance is intoxicating, so planting them near your living space, off a deck say, is highly recommended. Native to Japan, and introduced by Dutch traders into Europe in the late 1800's.
