Acer palmatum 'Orion'

A new compact, dense mound forming Japanese Maple with red leaves and green veins was found by Dick Wolff of Red Maple Nursery in Pennsylvania. In spring the new leaves come out a striking bright red, but then shade to a brick red by summer. In fall the tree goes back to bright red with some orange shading. The compact mounding form will be 3-4 feet in height and 6-7 feet wide over time. Hardy to zone 5.
