A striking dark purple-black maple that was found as a chance seedling from 'Purple Ghost' by the Buchholz nursery, with the leaves being darker than that of 'Purple Ghost'. In autumn, the foliage turns a rich scarlet red. This tree will be 10 ft tall and 6 ft. wide in 10 years, and is hardy to zone 5.
