Beni Maiko
Beni Maiko
An award winning Japanese Maple with outstanding qualities. The first show is in spring when the leaves emerge a bright pink-red. As summer approaches the foliage turns pinkish-red with green undertones. Then in late summer there is a distinct green and red look, although the leaf veins are still a brilliant red color. 'Beni Maiko' means 'Red Haired Dancing Girl' in Japan, where it is considered one of the most colorful. Although full sun can be tolerated, protection from hot summer sun will prevent burning, especially if the soil is dry. Easy to grow if given good, well-drained, organically rich soil and ample moisture. Grows well in containers as well as in the garden. Will reach 6 ft tall and wide in 10 years. Winner if the coveted Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for its outstanding qualities.
