Abies alba 'Pendula'
Abies alba 'Pendula'
This interesting and sculptural form of Silver Fir may start a bit floppy, but over time will become an impressive narrow spire with a fountain-like appearance in the landscape. Staking is required up to where you want it start weeping. The needles are often recurved, and a nice rich green color. Be aware that in some regions a late frost can damage the new, young shoots, but it will recover with later growth. The growth rate on this tree is around 1 foot per year, so will attain a large weeping specimen, 8 ft tall by 4 ft wide after 10 years. This old cultivar was first introduced by the Godefroy Nursery near Paris, France in 1835.
