Hamamelis virginiana - American Witch Hazel

Hamamelis virginiana - American Witch Hazel

American witch hazel is a deciduous shrub or small tree that flowers in winter. The yellow spider-like blooms appear on bare stems from late fall to late winter. Interestingly the flowers are not affected by even the hardest frosts. Native to Virginia, it can be found growing near streams or in woodlands. Most witch hazels will grow to 15-20 ft tall, and are taller than wide. A nice addition to the winter garden or even a patio planting and is deer resistant. Hardy to zone 3.
