Buxus sempervirens 'Dee Runk'
Buxus sempervirens 'Dee Runk'
This narrow, columnar form of boxwood was found at the Blandy Experimental Farm, associated with the University of Virginia. The cultivar is slow growing and will reach up to 10 ft tall x 2-3 ft wide. The foliage is glossy and dark green. Somewhat loose to start out, but tightens up over time. Small pale green to creamy flowers are inconspicuous in April and May. Useful as a 'spire' shaped plant in a garden of mounding forms. Named for Benjamin F.D. Runk who was the Professor of Biology and Dean of Students at the University of Virginia. Hardy to zone 6.
