Camellia x 'Winter's Joy'
Camellia x 'Winter's Joy'
Often starting its blooming in October, and continuing through the winter, this cheery pink camellia is a wonderful addition to any garden. The leaves are shiny and attractive. 'Winter's Joy' will grow to 6 ft. tall and 4 ft. wide over time and hardy to -10 deg F. Bred by Dr. Ackerman using selections of C. oleifera and C. sasanqua or C. hiemalis. Unlike many of the C. japonica cultivars whose flowers hang on becoming unsightly mushy and brown, this camellia's petals fall off when spent, keeping the plant attractive. This is a great candidate for a hedge, with minimal trimming needed. Much more attractive than a laurel hedge. Also, this cultivar works great espaliered on a fence or lattice.
