Here is a fabulous rhododendron. The plant is a tetraploid, which means it has more chromosomes than other rhododendron cultivars. The additional chromosomes results in larger flowers, thicker leaves and stems, and a tough and hardy growing characteristics. The plant will be 5 ft tall in 10 years, but will grow bigger. It grows wider than tall. This cultivar is often used as a parent for hybridizing new cultivars. The thicker leaves seem to be resistant to insects. Created by Harold Greer by crossing his award winning 'Trude Webster' with 'The Honorable Jean Marie de Montague'.
