Ruby Tear Drops
Ruby Tear Drops
Found by Fisher Farms in Gaston, Oregon in the 2000's, this unusual Colorado Blue Spruce is simply amazing! Early in its growing season the tree produces red cones at the ends of the branches, contrasting nicely with the powder-blue foliage. This display will last for 4 or more weeks, depending on the temperature. The colder the weather the longer the display will last. Eventually, the cones turn to tan, then will begin to deteriorate. 'Ruby Tear Drops' will grow 2" - 4" per year making a squatty to globose shape, and becoming 3ft - 4ft tall in 10 years. Overall it will be wider than tall at maturity. This cultivar was chosen by the American Conifer Society to be the 'Plant of the Year' for 2016.
