Reis Dwarf

Found by the late Joseph Reis of Long Island, New York.  This unusual Hinoki Cypress grows more upright with very short horizontal branches that develop congested growth, forming clump-like pads.  The plant will grow tall if a central leader develops, but will stay more compact if such a leader is pruned out.  This photo is of the original plant in Mr. Reis's garden in New York, and is quite old.  A "must have" for the dwarf Hinoki collector. This photo shows a very old plant that has been shaped over time.
