R. 'California Gold'
R. 'California Gold'
Although fairly tender, this FRAGRANT rhododendron is the 'yellowest' of any of the Maddenii types. Medium green leaves are a bit shiny and attractive on a plant with cinnamon peeling bark, a trait that many in the Maddenii section have. The flowers come out in mid April and are quite fragrant, perfuming the air. They are butter yellow with some pink striping on the back side of each flower. Hardy to zone 9 and 10.
Rare Variety – This variety is difficult to find anywhere due to these reasons
These tender varieties are rare because they do not have a wide enough audience due to their lack of hardiness and are overlooked by the big growers.
Singing Tree Gardens has made these rare varieties our passion and remain committed to producing them for future generations. Currently we are the only source in the USA for these tender, FRAGRANT plants.
