A new hybrid from Germany that promises to be one of the most compact and low rhododendrons with dark-purple flowers. This growth habit is different, as most purple flowering rhododendrons grow quite large. One can expect 'Polarnacht', which translates in German as polar night, to grow to 3 ft tall and 4-5 ft wide over time. The flowers have very frilly edges, and are a rich shade of purple with darker spotting within each flower, making them appear even darker. We have put this one into the Premium category as it not only performs spectacularly, but is harder to propagate thus making them hard to find.
If you are a purple fanatic, then 'Polarnacht' is for you! If you love Black Widow and Warlock but cannot grow them in your zone, Polarnacht might be the perfect solution... Hardy to zone 6
