Nepeta x faassenii - Dropmore Catmint
Nepeta x faassenii - Dropmore Catmint
Low, bushy mounded perennial with fragrant grey-green leaves that will produce clouds of bright blue flowers for weeks on end. Attractive to butterflies and bees, the bloom can be lengthened by light shearing in late June after the first flush of flowers has finished. Each plant will grow to be 1-3 ft tall by 3-4 ft wide. Drought tolerant once established. Introduced over 70 years ago by Dr. Skinner in an attempt to create a very tough catmint that can take Canadian winters. The essential oils in the leaves can make your cats frisky as it is similar to catnip, both in the same family and both containing the essential oil. Hardy to zone 4.
