Martha Wright
Martha Wright
I patiently grew Martha Wright for a couple years before I was humbled by her bloom. It stopped me in my path and left me entranced, jaw ajar. The creamy white flowers are......perfect. They make me think of Easter and tea time. So funny how flowers can work their way into our imagination and indeed our very soul! My garden soul was grateful to experience this plant. The small leaves are a little fuzzy and Martha is a strong plant, growing more quickly than most. Those lovely Easter white flowers have a creamy yellow throat and a light nutmeg fragrance. While it is a hybrid of R. Fragrantissimum, it seems an entirely new plant, not related to any other. It took home the award for Best New Hybrid in California in 1963 and was later registered in 1967 by the Sumners.
