'Miss Honeybee'
'Miss Honeybee'
Magnolia acuminata var. subcordata 'Miss Honeybee'
A relatively new magnolia that resulted by hybridizing with the native Magnolia acuminata var. subcordata, which is native to eastern North America. This small tree, reaching 20-25 ft tall, has FRAGRANT, light to medium yellow, cup-shaped flowers with a peach reverse. Flowering is heavy as this tree matures. 'Miss Honeybee' is a parent of several other yellow flowering magnolias, so it has to be good in many ways. Unlike most other magnolias, this cultivar produces a very showy gold fall color. The summer foliage of this tree is shorter, broader and a more lustrous dark-green than other magnolias. Excellent tree for a yard specimen, as it will be attractive, yet not get too large.
