Kleim's Hardy Gardenia

Kleim's Hardy Gardenia

Here is a form of Gardenia that is hardy to 0 deg. F. Most plants in this genus will not survive temperatures lower than 25 deg F. Commonly called cape jasmine, this plant is native to southern China and Japan. The leaves are typically glossy and very dark green. Kleim's Hardy was found by Don Kleim in California and is valued for its cold resistance to zone 7. Single ivory flowers appear in summer to fill the garden with an intoxicating fragrance. This is a wonderful plant for a large container or planter near you living area. Plant in a loose barky soil mix that drains well. Weekly watering should be sufficient unless your area is dry and hot. Flowering will continue into early to mid summer.
