Japanese Climbing Hydrangea - Schizophragma hydrangeoides
Japanese Climbing Hydrangea - Schizophragma hydrangeoides
When I first saw this fabulous Japanese climbing hydrangea on my friend's Russ & Vicki's pergola, I was sold! The flowers were very large (8"-10" across), lace cap style and the foliage is dark-green, toothed and heart-shaped, very attractive. I do like it better than other forms of climbing hydrangeas, and it looks very well behaved, not crawling over everything in sight like some other types. It is deciduous and turns a handsome yellow in the fall before dropping its leaves. Flowering for 6-8 weeks in summer. Hardy to zone 5. Prefers some shade and will climb to 20 feet if desired.
