Jakobsen

Jakobsen

When I first saw 'Jakobsen' I thought it to be the most handsome of dwarf conifers. Arne Vagn Jakobsen of Denmark is credited with the origin of this cultivar sometime in the late 1980s. The clumpy, contorted nature gives the plant a 'look' that is quite unique, and often labeled as fasciated. The needles are very dark green and are clumped tighter than those seen on the species. Some conifer experts have thought it to be a hybrid of P. mugo and P. nigra, but there is no proof of that. Grows 2-4 inches per year, producing a globose specimen 3 ft tall and 4 ft wide in 10 years.
