Iris sibirica 'Butter & Sugar'
Iris sibirica 'Butter & Sugar'
Iris always surprise me in the garden. Their foliage is not strong enough to demand attention, but does have a nice vertical texture. The flowers appear, and one will think "where did that come from?" The Sibirica Iris have a somewhat 'formal' look, and when in flower, they do attract the eye. This variety has beautiful bi-color blooms of creamy yellow and white, brightening up a shady area. Because they thrive in damp soils, they are an excellent choice around water elements like streams or ponds, and boggy areas as well. 'Butter & Sugar' blooms profusely and is spectacular when planted in masses. They start flowering in early June, and are also known to repeat bloom through the summer. Full sun to mostly shade. Plant 20" apart. Resistant to deer, rabbit, drought and clay soils. Hardy to zone 3. Good cut flowers.
