Abies pinsapo 'Horstmann'
Abies pinsapo 'Horstmann'
Blue-green Spanish fir that grows into a dwarf to intermediate sized tree. When young, the tree is most often globose or spreading globose in habit, but as it matures a terminal leader develops and it begins to go up, ending up more pyramidal in form. In 10 years, you could expect the tree to be 3 ft tall and 2 ft wide, but after that it may accelerate unless careful pruning is used to control the mature size. The needles are short. Found on a specimen of Abies pinsapo 'Glauca' by Günther Horstmann of Schneverdingen, Germany. Sometimes listed as 'Nana' or 'Horstmann Nana', both are not legitimate names. Very drought tolerant.
