Hedgehog
Hedgehog
How cute is this plant! The photo is of our little Hedghog after 8 years of time and it is still a small little creature. It is very slow growing, and tends to spread horizontally with its blue-gray needles. We have never pruned ours, other than taking some wood off for grafting. Reported to be the most winter hardy of the true cedars. The 10 year size estimate is around 12 inches tall x 15 inches wide, although ours has a ways to go to be that size. Cedrus libani is native to mountainous areas of Lebanon, Syria and Turkey. 'Hedgehog' is probably a sport found on another witches broom of this cedar.
