Green Penguin
Green Penguin
Imagine a short, plump dark green conifer in your garden that, if you put eyes on it, would remind you of an animal...maybe a penguin! This unique plant was found among a batch of Scots Pine seedlings by Jim Lewis in the 1990's. He almost threw it away, but kept it instead and was glad he did. The tree grows slowly, and with very dense foliage. In 10 years your 'Green Penguin' will only be 4 ft tall and 18 inches wide. Plant in a group of 3 or 5 and you will have a rookery. In late summer the plants produces curious 'flowers' of juvenile foliage, adding to its personality. Hardy to zone 3.
