Fuchsia boliviana 'Alba'
Fuchsia boliviana 'Alba'
Fuchsia boliviana is an unusual, rare species from the Andes mountains of South America. It is a tree-sized Fuchsia that grows to be 6-10 tall and about the same width growing in the wilds of Peru, Bolivia and northern Argentina. The plant is tender, only hardy to around +25 deg F, and prefers to grow in partial shade. In its native locations it will flower several times a year. We have not tried it, but this plant could possible work indoors as a house plant. It may need pruning to keep it at a desired size. Occasional feeding would promote more flowers. The long white tubular flowers are decorated with bright red petals at the end, and in groups of 12 or more to the bunch. Resistant to fuchsia mite. A stunning specimen for the tropical garden.
