Developed by Henny and Wennekamp and registered in 1958, this robust and large flowered rhododendron is a classic. This cultivar's parents, R. 'Loderi Venus' and R. 'Marinus Koster', are responsible for the huge flowers and thick, leathery leaves that make it special. Each flower in the clusters measures 5" across with frilly edges, and there are at least 12 flowers to a truss (cluster). Pastel pink shading is darker on the edges, and fades to a light pink in the throat. Also, there is red spotting in the throat, giving depth. Each truss or cluster really does look like a big ball of Cotton Candy like you get at the county fair. The foliage is very thick and leathery, deterring chewing insects, and holds well on the plant making it full and lush. Hardy to 0 deg. F. Easy and fast growing.
